We all have a stunning capacity for learning new skills throughout our lives and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award skills section seeks to remind us that in as little as three months we could have an entirely new skill set from just an hour of practice a week.

Many pupils will choose to learn to play a musical instrument, take up photography or practise cooking for their skill activity. Once again there is a virtually endless list of activities a participant could investigate to fulfil this section of the award but the DofE staff always encourage pupils to think beyond their current abilities and look for something to try that is new, exciting and perhaps even daring.

When pupils complete their Awards, it always the ones who have pushed themselves to go beyond their comfort zone and try new things that feel they have got the most out of it.
