School Uniform

We firmly believe that looking smart and professional has a very positive influence on attitudes to learning.

The sense of belonging that is promoted and experienced by wearing uniform can also have a powerful and positive impact on young people’s wellbeing.

Our aim for the school uniform is simple: we are committed to ensuring that we have a modern, inclusive approach that meets the needs of our diverse community whilst also enhancing our high standards.

  • All pupils must wear The Glasgow Academy blazer, shirt/tie or blouse, skirt or trousers.
  • Trousers must be grey not black.
  • Uniform must be worn in a professional manner: shirt must always be fully tucked in, collars buttoned, and ties tightened to the collar and of normal length; skirts of approximately knee length.
  • Shoes must be plain black leather, polishable and without protective toe caps or ornate decoration or stitching. To reduce shoe wear, trainers can be changed into for playing sport at Break and Lunch time only.
  • All Prep and Senior pupils up to and including S2 should wear Academy-branded sports kit on days they have curricular PE (this does not include Sports afternoons or practices). Pupils in S3-S6 must wear full school uniform every day and will have access to changing facilities on days that they have sports.
  • Make-up, fake-tan, coloured nail varnish or any other form of visible piercing, tattoo or fake tattoo are not permitted.
  • No jewellery can be worn other than a single stud in both ears (i.e. not just one).
  • Hair length should be no shorter than grade 2 and must not be an unnatural colour.
  • School hoodies can be worn to and from school but must not be worn during the school day (unless it is as part of ‘sports kit’ on a day pupils up to S2 have curricular PE).
  • It is not necessary for pupils in Prep to wear a white summer cardigan; blue ‘winter’ jumpers can be worn in summer with the summer dress if desired.
  • The purple trim on the white Prep blouse is not mandatory; this can still be purchased but a plain white blouse or shirt can also be worn.
  • The jumper must be navy but does not have to have purple cuffs – only v neck jumpers are allowed.
  • Prep 5, regardless of where the pupil has P.E. on a Friday, can come to school wearing the school tracksuit for Sport.
