From our archives
The Glasgow Academy Archive collection covers all aspects of school life including records of the War Memorial Trust who govern the school, school registers, sports and extracurricular activities, records of clubs and societies, school magazines and publications, officer training corps records and other associated miscellaneous historical papers and objects. There is also a large collection of physical and digital photographic material and records relating to the Westbourne School for girls, the Glasgow Academicals, Atholl Preparatory school and Dairsie House School.
In the inaugural Ronnie Woods Memorial Lecture in March 2019, Dr Stephen Mullen, told us something of the history of The Academy and its connections to the slave trade.
Dr Mullen spoke of the work that External Relations had done in tracing the names in the school registers, checking them against the authoritative record
We can now make available - for the first time - the first five years of school registers, accompanied by a spreadsheet which details some key facts, where we have been able to trace them. We are always happy to add to our story, so please get in touch if you have any further information.
