S1 & S2 Modern Languages

In S1 pupils have a choice of studying either French or Spanish.  This is then the language that they will be presented for at National 5.  A second Modern Language may be picked up in S3.

We are very excited by our interactive S1 and S2 courses: Viva for Spanish and Studio for French.

All pupils access their textbook on their iPad, which allows them to personalise their work. Topics studied are of relevance to young people and include up-to-date modern themes and celebrations of cultural relevance. In addition we set differentiated interactive listening and reading tasks online, directly linked to every core unit of the Pupil Book, which provide extra practice for pupils. All of these activities are self-marking and results are tracked, so pupils get instant feedback and they, their parents and teachers can see how they are progressing instantaneously.

But we don't just depend on a textbook; thinking skills and global issues are embedded into our courses and pupils take part in a variety of rich tasks. In S1 and S2, our pupils participate in the national Word Wizard competition. Our school has the distinction of being the most successful competitor since the competition's inception.

In S1 all pupils have the opportunity to participate in a trip to a francophone country. Historically this trip has been to Paris, but as of 2017 pupils will be going to Geneva. In S2 all pupils have the chance to participate in an interdisciplinary trip to Madrid.

S1 iMovie Competition, Modern Languages Achievement Awards 2018-2019

Congratulations to our S1 iMovie class winners for French and Spanish this year and also to the overall winners, Daniel, Amber and Iman.

Their winning iMovies, as voted for by all of S1, were judged to be the most entertaining, creative and with excellent language content.

Well done to everyone!

Word Wizard 2018-2019

Our S1 school champion for Word Wizard 2019 (our own in-house Foreign Language Spelling Bee) goes to Abhiram Reddy.

Absolutely fantastic effort and speed: 23 words correct in 90 seconds!  Well done, Abhi!
