S3 & S4 History
In S3-4 pupils are entered for their National 5 examination. We build on skills learned lower down the school in terms of assessment, but also facilitate understanding and enjoyment through the study of challenging topics. We look at Scotland during the Great War, British involvement in the Atlantic Slave Trade and the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany before 1939. Such events have had an impact on us locally, nationally and internationally. Students develop a deeper understanding of complex events as well as their own ability to critically analyse more complex source material. The ability to research events and present findings on a variety of platforms is encouraged as is the formulation of the student's own views on events in the past.
Above all, we seek to develop enjoyment and skills. The ability to interpret and analyse evidence as well as present findings in a structured way is directly applicable to many professions, including journalism, law and the heritage sector.
