Drama

“Drama is like life with the dull bits cut out!” Alfred Hitchcock (director)

The Glasgow Academy's Drama Department is an innovative, inclusive and vibrant environment. We aim to develop your creativity, communication, versatility and imagination through a collaborative working model: all of which can have a significant and positive impact on developing your confidence and resilience. Access to the arts from both the curriculum and co-curricular programme is at the heart of what we do, encouraging you to have a lifelong love of drama and performance, whilst empowering you with key transferable skills which are of inestimable benefit in your personal life and future career.

“An actor must interpret life, and in order to do so must be willing to accept all the experiences life has to offer. In fact, he must seek out more of life than life puts at his feet.” James Dean (actor)

The Academy has invested significantly in the facilities available to our Drama students and now offers four diverse and specialised performance spaces. These include our intimate end-on and in-the-round studio theatres, each equipped with the most advanced LED lighting and customised sound system, to the showpiece Watson Auditorium, with its 3d projection and motorised LED lighting rig which can be brought down to floor level at the touch of a button, enabling pupils to safely access the equipment. Pupils studying Drama can now enjoy training on the most sophisticated technology available within spaces customised to ensure they get the very best experience.

“Drama makes us feel connected to one another and less isolated. We find our identity and make it easier and more pleasurable to live, and it also gives us wisdom. We see our problems acted out: it’s an important socialising force.” Arthur Miller (playwright)
