Prep 7/ Transitus

At The Glasgow Academy, we understand the importance of this final year in preparing children for Senior School. The Prep 7 timetable is carefully designed to ensure children continue to benefit from having the stability and nurture of a class teacher, whilst being exposed to a wide range of specialist teachers in Art, Drama, Music, Modern Languages, PE and Sport. The benefit of having regular access to specialist teachers on site means our children are excellently prepared for the learning environment of Senior School.

Our Prep 7 classrooms are a hive of activity, teaching the vital skills of Literacy and Numeracy, whilst honing the children's higher level thinking skills. By immersing them in a variety of topics and conducting independent research projects, we also ensure children have a vested interest in their learning. We bring these topics to life where our children are evacuated into the streets of the West End, fight for Women's Rights in a public debate against their teachers and put their survival skills into action during our Volcano Morning.

Our Prep 7 children are encouraged to take on positions of responsibility to further develop leadership and their caring and nurturing attitude towards others. Our children's talents extend far beyond the classroom and there is a wide range of opportunities for them to represent the school in a number of different events both sporting and otherwise. There are also many highlights in the year, including a Dragons' Den-style competition to organise the Prep 7 Prom, a Shakespeare production and an unforgettable residential trip to the Benmore Activity Centre in Dunoon at the end of the year.

We passionately believe our fun-filled, action-packed experience in Prep 7 provides the perfect preparation, both academically and pastorally, for our children's smooth transition into the Senior School.
