The Glasgow Academy / Thursday, October 12, 2017 Record Higher pass rate at The Glasgow Academy - again!

Congratulations to Glasgow Academy pupils on their record pass rate at Higher - 97.36%.  This is the third year running that Glasgow Academy pupils have gained record results at Higher.

In contrast, nationally the Higher pass rate fell this year, from 77.2% to 77.0%.

41 Academy pupils gained 5 or more straight A grades at Higher.

67.3% of Academy Higher entries were awarded A grades this year (compared to 28.7% nationally).

At National 5, 71.1% of Academy entries gained A grades (compared to 37.1% nationally). Amongst high-performing departments, Drama, Hospitality and Latin gained 100% A grades.

At Advanced Higher, 51.1% of Academy entries were awarded A grades (compared to 31.7% nationally).

The Rector, Peter Brodie, said: "I am delighted for all our pupils who worked hard and gained the results they wanted - and for the teachers who did all they could to support them.  I am particularly encouraged by our series of record Higher pass rates, which are all the more impressive given that we have an open entry policy and present pupils for a significantly higher number of Highers (averaging around five per pupil) than many schools.

"The rounded nature of our school is evident in our record number of sports internationalists this year, a record performance at the British rowing championships, record entries and awards achieved for the DofE award, and a series of outstanding dramatic and musical events. Our pupils on tour this month in Canada (rugby) and Holland (hockey) and those shortly to be on leadership training in the Lake District have certainly earned a good time and I congratulate all pupils across the years who did their very best."
