It has been a first-class season for Glasgow Academy 1st XI cricketers - winning all but one of their fixtures against other schools.
What started with a hugely-successful tour to Dubai ended with an excellent win in the Glasgow Academy Six-a-side Tournament.
In 'Sixes', each team consists of 6 players and every player bowls an over, excepting the wicket keeper. So, in each match the batting team gets to play a maximum of 5 overs. At the end of the group stages, the Glasgow Academy boys booked their place in the final courtesy of a very convincing win against High School of Glasgow by over 36 runs.
The final was played against Hutchesons' Grammar School and - on winning the toss - John Oliver (captain) decided to bat first and in the 5 overs we scored 90. John scored 54 off just 18 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes! Hutchesons' were always struggling to keep up with the scoring rate against good bowling from all the TGA bowlers. In the end Hutchie could manage only 67 off the 5 overs. TGA won the match by 23 runs and retained the Sixes trophy.
Many congratulations to all who took part.
