Music

Pupils playing the clarinetMusic is taught at all stages in The Academy: Nursery/Kindergarten, Prep School and Senior School.

Pupils in the Prep School and in S1 and S2 receive music twice a week. This provides an ideal environment to to employ Curriculum for Excellence initiatives, encompassing listening, practical and even composing at an early age. 

At present, there are around 500 pupils receiving instrumental lessons every week in The Glasgow Academy. Tuition is offered on the following instruments: Piano, Organ, Guitar (Acoustic, Electric and Bass), Harp, Clarsach, Accordion, Voice, Drum Kit, Percussion, Flute, Recorder, Fife, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bagpipes, Chanter, Pipe Drums, and we also offer Music Theory classes.

In addition to performing solo, the music department provides a range of opportunities for pupils to perform in groups in front of an audience, compose original music and study musical theory.

There is a bi-annual music tour: the next tour will be to New York, after the Netherlands tour. Recent tours have been to Barcelona, New York, Italy and Belgium. As well as performing in front of appreciative local audiences, tours afford the opportunity to relax and have fun together.
