Sixth-Year Centre Looking back on their time at school, many of our former pupils say that the Sixth proved to be their most satisfying year. We are always seeking new ways in which to enhance the experience of our Sixth Year pupils. Apart from modules delivered by our own staff we have close links with Glasgow University and Clydebank College and use their expertise to deliver a variety of courses which include Film and Television Production and Mandarin. During their study periods Sixth Year students may also make use of Telford College 's Distance Learning Programme. The final year is a time in their school career when young adults are given a measure of independence and responsibility for organising some of their own time is encouraged by the allocation of both private study periods and "social" periods: periods when they may elect to relax in the modern surroundings of the Sixth Year Centre. The Sixth Year Centre is a modern facility which recognises both the uniqueness of our final year students and the special contribution which they make to life at The Academy. The two-floor complex contains a well-equipped leisure and recreation area for students to use in their free time as well as their own study and teaching rooms. The Sixth Year is also a time for looking ahead to university and college and to the world of employment. An important feature of the Sixth Year Centre is a careers library, giving pupils access to all the materials they will need in choosing their university or college courses and in making their UCAS applications. We believe that responsibility is its own reward, but Sixth Year students have special privileges in recognition of the fact that the school would not run so smoothly were it not for the superb job they do supervising activities and entertaining visitors and guests. |
