Non-Academic Objectives
The Educational Policy is embedded in the overall objective of preparing
each boy and girl for adult life and has distinct and separate elements
in addition to formal academic learning. Pupils are encouraged to
develop their interests, talents and initiative through sports, social
and leisure activities.
Although The Academy has a Christian foundation and morning assembly
provides a moral or spiritual lead, pupils and staff from all religious
and cultural backgrounds are welcome.
The school aims to establish and maintain a positive, caring ethos which
fosters equality, fairness and mutual respect.
Of great importance is the development of a concept of service.
Activities with a strong service element include C.C.F., the Duke of
Edinburghs Award, the schools charity fundraising and pupils
mentoring each other.
Competition is encouraged through a house system and a wide range of
school clubs provide pupils with the opportunity to participate in such
diverse outlets as music, drama, debating, public speaking, chess,
skiing, etc. as well as the principal team activities of rugby, hockey,
tennis, cricket and athletics, all of which are supported by coaching,
training and physical education.
Through all aspects of school life, pupils are encouraged to develop
initiative, self-discipline, an enquiring mind and an enthusiasm for
self-development and support of others, all within the social structures
of school life.
