Army Section The Army Section provides cadets with a challenging range of activities and an insight into Army life. During their first year in the Section, cadets are instructed in communications, map reading and orienteering, weapon training, canoeing, shooting, and Fieldcraft. During their second year, this training is continued with the emphasis on Fieldcraft and self-reliance. In addition, cadets are taught “methods of instruction” to develop their skills as instructors and leaders. Battlecraft weekends, either under canvas or at a Regular Army training area and Field Days are used for all aspects of training. In addition the Section spends the first week of the summer holidays at a Central CCF camp (such as Barrybuddon) or a self-run Contingent Camp (such as Lochgilphead) where there are many opportunities for both military and adventurous training. In their 5th Form, cadets may opt for special-to-arms training in the Royal Signals Troop or Infantry Cadre where they can expand their specialist knowledge and apply their skills as NCOs.
