Opening hours
The Library is open for access from 9.00am – 5.00pm.
Resources may be borrowed from 10.00am – 4.30pm.

Aims
The aims of the Library are:

  • to support the curriculum across all subjects, providing material to encourage background reading and to help with homework and investigations;
  • to enable pupils to broaden their general knowledge and awareness of current affairs, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop their leisure interests;
  • to provide a wide choice of fiction titles to encourage an enjoyment of reading at all levels.

Stock
The Library holds over 10000 resources (books and CD-Roms). The stock is regularly reviewed and updated. There is a large Reference Section containing encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, statistics, directories. The Library takes two daily newspapers and subscribes to 24 journals. There are four networked computers with access to the Internet.

Usage
The Library is open to pupils and staff throughout the school day and also after school. Teachers bring classes to the Library to make use of the resources and the computers. The Librarian is always available to help with information retrieval. As part of their PSE classes, all pupils receive guidance in Library Skills and in Information Handling Skills to help them make effective use of the available resources.
