Drama at The Academy allows pupils to explore their interests in all aspects of academic and practical drama, not only in performance (acting and dance), but also in production arts (lighting, sound, costume, props, make-up and stage management). Within both the curriculum and co-curricular programmes, the department actively encourages pupils to develop their self-esteem and sense of self-efficacy through a variety of pupil-centred activities.
The department aims to enhance personal skills such as communication, versatility, imagination and creativity. The teaching methods adopted encourage pupils to co-operate, respond, negotiate, present and evaluate in a purposeful way. Learning occurs though a continuous inter-active process.
Our pupils will also acquire the fundamental theatre skills that will enable them to pursue careers in theatre, film and in broadcasting, and Drama will increase for all pupils the significance, appreciation and enjoyment of these areas of our culture.
