Musical Activities
Prep Choir


Music is taught at all stages in The Academy: Nursery/Kindergarten, Prep School and Senior School.

In P4 and P5, pupils receive class tuition on recorder once a week and work through Three Recorder Units over the two years. In P6 and P7, pupils receive class tuition on keyboard once a week.

  • Prep Wind Band

    The Prep Wind Band encompasses pupils as young as Prep 4 up to Transitus, and boasts a wide variety of wind instruments. This year they have been learning "Friends", "Colors of the Wind" and their favourite - "The Flintstones"! They perform on a regular basis throughout the year, at Prep Assembly and at the Prep Musical Evening in the summer term. Miss Fallone rehearses this group, and all brass and woodwind players in the Prep School are encouraged to join.

  • String Group

    The String Group rehearses with Mrs Barron (violin tutor) every Monday lunchtime at 12.30pm in Room 17 in the Turner Building (upstairs classroom). As with any musical group, players are recommended to have at least a year's instrumental tuition before they are eligible to join this group. Your string teacher will be able to advise you on this. The String Group regularly perform at Prep Assembly and also at the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

  • Ensemble


  • The Percussion Group rehearse with Miss McDowall every Friday lunchtime at 12.30pm in the Performance Room in the Turner Building. The Percussion Ensemble is made up of pupils who receive percussion lessons and should have at least a year’s tuition before they are eligible to join this group. The group perform at Prep Assemblies and at the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

  • Recorder Group


  • The Recorder Group rehearse with Miss MacLeod every Tuesday lunchtime at 12.30pm in the upstairs music classroom in the Turner Building. Pupils from Prep 4, 5 and 6 can audition to join this group and perform at Prep Assemblies and the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

  • Steel Band


  • A new group starting in session 2006/07. This will be run by Mr Marshall and is sure to be a very successful and exciting group.

  • Guitar Group


  • The Guitar Group rehearse with Mr Gray (guitar tutor) every Monday lunchtime at 12.30pm in the Performance Room in the Turner Building. The group is made up of pupils who should have had at least a year’s tuition and in consultation with Mr Gray. The Guitar Group perform at Prep Assemblies and at the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

  • Prep Choirs


  • Prep 2/3 Choir: Pupils from Prep 2 and 3 rehearse weekly with Mrs McLellan in the Prep School hall. This choir sings at the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

    Prep 4 Choir: Pupils from Prep 4 rehearse with Mr Marshall every Friday at 12.30 in the Prep School Hall. The choir performs at Prep School assemblies and the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

    The Prep 5 Choir is taken by Miss Fallone, and rehearses once a week in preparation for the Prep Musical Evening, Prep Assemblies, etc. It involves over 30 pupils from Prep 5, both boys and girls, and has proved a very popular group this year, with many enthusiastic and spirited members! Their favourite repertoire this year has been songs from "Samson" and "Drunken Sailor".

    Prep 6/P7 Choir: Pupils from Prep 6 and P7 rehearse with Mr Marshall every Friday at 12.30pm in the upstairs music classroom. The Choir performs at Princes Square (Carol Singing), Prep School assemblies and the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.

    P7 Boys' Choir: This was a new group formed by Mr Hawkins last session. They made their debut performance at the Prep Music Evening in the summer term.
