Athletics Information

On your marks, get set - go!The first Athletics Sports were held on the Burnbank Ground on 2nd May, 1868. They have been held annually without interruption since that year. The war years, which put a stop to other athletic activities, did not affect the annual sports. It is believed to be the second oldest amateur athletics meeting in Scotland.

Pupils regularly compete in cross-country competitions over the winter and in athletics meets in the summer. The mainstay of junior athletics is the Athletics League, which provides regular opportunities for participation and competition; we also participate in the Glasgow Schools Championship and Scottish Schools Championship. Training sessions at Kelvin Hall and Scotstoun with a mix of staff and professional athletics coaches are used to improve the technique of each individual. Relay running is always enjoyed by pupils; the team aspect generates a real enthusiasm that has brought success at Glasgow Schools and Scottish Schools levels.
