SCHOLAR is an e-learning programme developed by Heriot-Watt University.  It provides on-line learning materials to support teaching and learning in the following Higher and Advanced Higher courses:

Accounting and Finance
Biology
Business Management
Chemistry
Computing
Economics
French
Mathematics (including Intermediate 2)
Physics
Spanish

Materials consist of textual and graphical descriptions, animations and simulations and on-line formative tests.  The material is embedded in within a Virtual Learning Environment that provides progress reporting, teacher monitoring and a discussion board that enables SCHOLAR students to communicate with each other and obtain expert advice from an on-line tutor.

SCHOLAR is not a substitute for teacher contact, but is used to complement what happens in the classroom.  At the start of the session teachers are provided with passwords to issue to all students studying the above courses.  If your son or daughter has lost or not yet received their password, please encourage them to ask their teacher.

We recommend SCHOLAR is used at home as another learning resource.
