Co-Curricular Activities We share a strong sense of the importance of service and community. Atholl children can walk to the local Old Folks' Home and to the church and shops. Our minister, Mr Frater, is often at the school and the children love to hear his stories at assembly. Giving to others is very much part of our ethos and we support many local charities like The Children's Hospice Association Scotland and The Glasgow City Mission. We are proud of our shows to parents: especially the yearly Nativity performance which has been an Atholl tradition for over 80 years. Our day for grandparents is always successful, as are our World Festivals' celebrations where everyone enters into the spirit of the day by dressing up and singing songs. Our Scottish activities like the St. Andrew's Ceilidh and Burns' events are stalwarts in the Atholl calendar. These all run alongside visitors to the school and joint Academy functions. Every pupils at Atholl has the opportunity to take part in co-curricular activities: no-one has the time to say, 'I'm bored!' The school has a number of Clubs which take place throughout the year. These include Netball; Technology; Scottish Country Dancing and Chess. The school encourages all the pupils to 'have a go'. Teachers also run the Eco Committee, School Council and Enterprise Club. We believe in involving parents in our ventures and parent representatives are often in the school sharing their ideas with the staff and pupils.
Speakers, including parents, are invited into the school to talk to the pupils about their specialist areas. Recently the school has held talks on India and China. We have had visits from authors, the Community Police, the Dogs' Trust, Glasgow City Mission and the Samaritan's Purse. The Puppet Theatre, Hopscotch Theatre Group and the Gladigator have all entertained the children. | |||||
