Entrance Test
Children applying for P7 take the following papers:
- Non-verbal Reasoning - this symbols-based test is designed to assess the candidate’s potential rather than achievement or knowledge. Some practice questions precede the test.
- English Writing - a short piece of personal or imaginative writing. Assessment will take account of story interest, vocabulary used, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Mathematics - addition to 100000 and beyond; subtraction from 100000; multiplication; division; percentages; decimals; word problems; shapes and their properties; symmetry; use of money to £1000; time; measure, distance, perimeter and volume; fractions (tenths, twentieths, quarters etc.); co-ordinates.
- Verbal Reasoning - this language-based test is designed to assess the candidate’s potential rather than achievement or knowledge. A short practice paper precedes the test.
All parents and children are interviewed informally by both the Rector and the Prep School Head or a member of his senior team.
