P6
Entrance Test

Children applying for P6 take the following papers:

  • Non-verbal Reasoning - this symbols-based test is designed to assess the candidate’s potential rather than achievement or knowledge. Some practice questions precede the test.
  • English Writing - a short piece of personal or imaginative writing. Assessment will take account of story interest, vocabulary used, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Mathematics - addition and subtraction to/from 100000; multiplication; division; word problems; shapes and their properties; symmetry; use of money to £1000; fractions; a variety of graphs and tables; decimals; time; measure; co-ordinates
  • Verbal Reasoning - this language-based test is designed to assess the candidate’s potential rather than achievement or knowledge. A short practice paper precedes the test.

All parents and children are interviewed informally by the Prep School Head or a member of his senior team.
