Welcome to The Glasgow Academy Kindergarten - Kelvinbridge

Kindergarten is a special place where our younger children can expand their love of learning, make new friends and prepare for the important transition from Pre-school to P1.  Kelvinbridge Kindergarten is located in our newly built state-of-the-art Preparatory School. Our facilities are class leading and thus your child will be in the best possible environment.

On visiting us, you will be immediately struck by the  warm, happy atmosphere of children at play.  Everywhere you look, you will find the foundations for future learning. Areas of the playroom include water, sand, painting, construction, baking, a snack table offering healthy snacks  and a book corner. The children regularly use a computer plus there is the great benefit provided by  the latest interactive whiteboard. The children also have easy access to an outdoor area throughout the day. The children are supported by our staff who have many years experience in early childhood education and development.

Kelvinbridge Kindergarten is run by Mrs Ruth Oliver who has been an Academy teacher for several years.  She has a wealth of experience in providing quality learning for the pupils in a safe and secure environment.  She works closely with the other school sites and the service is in partnership with Glasgow City Council.  All our staff attend regular Professional Development training and have plenty of opportunities to integrate their ideas into the playroom.

Our staff use their observations of the children to plan a wide variety of stimulating and challenging activities.  We believe strongly in supporting pupil choice and in challenging each individual to be the best that he or she can be.  Benefitting from being located in the heart of the West End we use every opportunity to take the learning outdoors and into the wider community. Our children have regular opportunities to visit many local attractions, including Kelvingrove Art Galleries, the Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove Park.

Communication with parents is very important to us and we endeavour  to  involve our parents in the children's learning and development. Parents can follow the day's plan on the whiteboard located outside the playroom and can look at photos of the children at play on the plasma screen which is also outside the playroom. Parents are kept informed through a monthly newsletter and twice a year we have parents' evenings when staff and parents can get together to discuss the children's development.

We now have a termly Breakfast Celebration for parents to attend. During session 2011 - 2012 these included a Scottish Breakfast, a childrens Art Exhibition and a Jubilee Breakfast.

Kelvinbridge Kindergarten offers flexibility of sessions during the week.  We ask the children to take a minimum of five mornings and then the afternoon sessions can be arranged to suit family commitments. The children can have a hot lunch, which is included in the fees. Our After-school Care Service provides wrap around care from 8-8.30 am and from 4 - 6pm.

Kindergarten is part of the whole school community. Our children receive weekly P.E and music lessons from specialist teachers in the Prep School and participate in regular Early Years assemblies, when children receive certificates to celebrate achievement.  Our children also enjoy  attending a wide range of events such as shows put on by visiting theatre groups as well as special assemblies produced by the older children. This is one of the many benefits of being part of a larger community and by the time the children are ready to progress in to P1 they are confident members of the school, making this transition not a daunting one but an exciting one.
