A key focus in recent years has been our Science and Technology development on Colebrooke Street - The Saunders Centre - and refurbishing the former Science buildings.
The Saunders Centre was formally opened by Lord Strathclyde in October 2015. It is a fantastic addition to school facilities with a total of 15 new laboratories for Biology, Physics and Chemistry, a Food Technology department, meeting/hospitality space and a stunning 165-seat auditorium.
Last year also saw the refurbishment of the vacated Science buildings. The 'old Chemistry' building now has a state-of-the-art Drama department on the first floor while the ground floor has dedicated spaces for Outdoor Education, Engineering Club and socialising. The former Chemistry and Physics departments have also had major work carried out to create a dance studio, a fitness suite, additional PE offices and a new medical centre.
Our Bursary provision is at the heart of The Glasgow Academy ethos. Bursaries ensure access to the best educational opportunities in the West of Scotland is possible. Bursaries also allow support for existing Academy families who face unexpected financial hardship.
In the next few years there will be an increased focus on Bursaries as The Academy seeks to provide more support to talented children from homes of modest means. We also want to grow our Bursary endowment fund, so we can secure and expand help with fees in the future.
Throughout its history, The Glasgow Academy has been fortunate to receive generous and loyal support from its wider community of former pupils, parents, staff and friends. Without that generous support, numerous developments and giving Bursaries would not have been possible.
We are hugely grateful to all our generous benefactors who want to support Glasgow Academy's vision and we greatly appreciate every gift, large or small.
