Royal Navy
The Royal Navy section of our CCF provides an ideal opportunity for those who wish to broaden their horizons and take advantage of the diverse range of experiences available.
Our committed team of senior cadets work together to plan interactive learning experiences for the rest of the section, creating a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. With the introduction of an exciting new syllabus, our cadets are able to learn about navigation and seamanship before putting their knowledge into practice through various afloat activities, including dinghy sailing, canoeing and even sea experiences upon larger vessels. There is a great emphasis on training that not only gives cadets an insight into the Royal Navy but also enables our cadets to develop a range of skills, including leadership.
Most of our training takes place on site and in addition to activities led by the cadets, we enjoy regular visits from Naval personnel, including our Chief Petty Officer – Area Instructor, RN Submariners and RN Marines. We have links with the students from the Glasgow URNU and have benefitted from their expertise and resources. In addition to on-site training, our section has enjoyed multiple visits to HMNB Clyde, Faslane as well as sailing trips on the Clyde. We attend two annual field days as well as completing an end-of-term training course as a whole section.
The Royal Naval section is unique in that cadets can also apply to attend national camps and courses which are held in locations around the UK. Annual camps are held at Britannia Royal Naval College (Dartmouth), HMS Bristol (Portsmouth) and the Garelochead Training Area (Scotland). There are over a hundred courses to choose from throughout the year, many leading to nationally-recognised qualifications. Some examples include adventure training, scuba diving, first aid, life guard training, rock climbing and even flying.
