The aim of the Preparatory department is to give a firm grounding in all aspects of the 5 to 14 Guidelines and Curriculum for Excellence. The four capacities or outcomes aim for the children to become Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Effective Contributors and Responsible Citizens.
There is one class at each stage. Our small classes enable close attention to be paid to individual needs and development.
The children are taught using Formative Assessment and Active Learning methods. Specialist teachers of French, Music, Physical Education and Learning Support play an important role in the life of the school, encouraging the development of individual talents. Another advantage of our small classes is that the children mix well across the stages.
Prep 4 children run a Young Enterprise Club and their profits, which are saved in their own Enterprise bank account, are presented to their chosen charity at the end of the session. Various other Enterprise activities occur across the other stages too.
The very active Eco Committee is made up of two children from each class and is working through the Eco Schools Programme alongside its own initiatives.
The children have a Suggestion Box into which they can put a written note with anything new they would like to do, or see happen.
Particular importance is attached to good home/school liaison and we operate an Open Door policy. There are two Parents' Evenings during the year and two Reports are produced for parents: one at Christmas and one in June.
